Secretariat's Glory ~ Was one big surprise gift on Shirley’s 63rd birthday. What started out as a quiet, casual day with no plans on May 25, 2011, turned out to be a Hallelujah shouting time of answered prayer because she was hoping for a colt. Out of seven mares to foal that spring, Secretariat's Fire had past her foaling date and was the last broodmare to foal. Shirley had just returned home from meeting Penny Chenery at her first Kentucky Derby and showed her a photograph of Secretariat's Fire from Secretariat's last foal crop. Penny asked who she was bred to and when she heard the name Midnight Lute, her eyes brightened as she responded, "That ought to be a really good one. Keep me posted"! .The next time Shirley saw Penny was later that fall at the annual Secretariat Festival in Paris Kentucky. Secretariat's Fire and four-month-old Secretariat's Glory were celebrities as part of the Secretariat descendants portion of the show. My Storm Trooper ~ Came off the transport truck from Kentucky a month or two later than the other foals who were also sired by Kentucky Sires. He arrived with a heavy winter coat and looked a little ruff. Shirley’s six-year-old grandson, Tristen Michael happened to be there as he walked off the truck. His first question was, “Grandma can I have him”? She asked why he wanted him and not any of the others that had arrived the month before. “I just like the way he looks”, he replied. She told him that he would have to give him a name and before she could say anything else, he blurted out, “How about Storm Trooper?

She said she thought that was a fitting name for him and said she would check it out…thinking he would forget about the whole thing by the end of the week…but he didn’t. He kept asking about the name until Shirley was forced into checking to see if the name was available. The name had already been used so Tristen added My to the front of it and sealed the deal with Grandma. JT Munnings ~ Has a foundation of championship bloodlines from which to build his own racing accreditations. His sire, Munnings (a direct descendant of La Troienne) earned $742,640 and was the fastest son of Breeder’s Cup Sprint winner Speightstown (Leading Active Sire worldwide who earned $1,258.256) and one of the fastest sons of Gone West. Saturday, November 16th was truly a magical day for Munnings when his progeny made every post a winner in the US with a Grade III, a quinella, a smart stakes winner and another impressive win at Woodbine.
His first crop progeny is leaving their mark on the scoreboard coming in 1st & 2nd place in the Bob Hope Grade III Stakes at Del Mar. No Problem (2 wins from 3 starts topping $80,000 earned) was his first Graded winner. Alright Alright, captured 2nd place with just a half a length separating the two colts in that Stakes race. Lake Sebago broke her maiden, scoring by 11 ¾ lengths at Laurel and claimed her first Black type success by winning the $100,000. Smart Halo Stakes. Among Munnings 19 progeny wins, Fifth Business scored first place by a neck over six furlongs at Woodbine.
Warrior King ~ Warrior King's pedigree speaks for itself. His sire, Majestic Warrior was “2013 Leading 2nd Crop Sire”. He was A.P. Indy’s (earned $2,979,815) fastest son and the only one to win a G1 under one mile. He won the $250,000. Hopeful Stakes (G1). He was out of G1 winning dam: Dream Supreme (earned $1,007,680) by Seeking the Gold (earned $2,307,000). His first juveniles began their racing careers in 2012. His first crop 2yo’s made $350,000.00 - $750,000. Etc. at the 2yo sales. His first crop G1 Kentucky Oaks winner, Princess Sylmar won four G1s and was the top seller at the 2014 Fasig Tipton Nov. sale fetching $3.1 million. The price was deserved as she was won The Kentucky Oaks, Coaching Club American Oaks, Beldame, and Alabama – no other horse in history had ever won this series, though many have tried, but failed. She beat Beholder, Close Hatches, and Royal Delta. Declan’s Warrior & Best Warrior (Japan) are G3 winners, plus stakes winner Ante Up Annie. Other winners: Shannon Nicole, Majestic Presence, Quiet Ruler, Nonna, and Lady Sabelia. Warrior King is currently training at Gulfstream Park, Florida, and will run his first race in January 2015.
